Introduction
Yes, this is another pop-up
killer. Everyone hates pop-ups, doesn't it? But wait, PopX is the best among
others like PopupKiller, PopStopper, PopFilter, etc.
PopX provides incomparable user
experience. PopX is fully integrated with Internet Explorer window. It is
loaded when an IE window starts, and when the IE window is closed, PopX unloads
itself automatically. There is no forever-running program sitting in
the system tray, monitoring browser activities and using up system resources.
PopX is smart. It neither asks you
to maintain a black list nor blindly blocks any new windows. Instead PopX uses
an intelligent algorithm to decide which pop-up windows are "real" pop-ups and
block them even before they are downloaded to your computer.
PopX is powerful. It not only
blocks hard pop-ups, but also detects
soft pop-ups. All other pop-up killers on the market handle hard
pop-ups only.
PopX is user friendly. PopX
provides visible and audible pop-up alarms and detailed pop-up logs. When a
pop-up is detected, an icon is shown on the PopX toolbar. The pop-up log
records url of the pop-up and the web page generating the pop-up.
PopX is cost-effective. You pay
only US$9.9 for the best pop-up killer on the market plus our un-limited technical
support and the free upgrade of further coming new versions.
PopX needs IE 5.0 or above and
works under Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000/XP.
What's New
This version of
PopX has a re-designed user interface and many other new features:
-
PopX
now protects all websites using HTTPS protocol by default.
-
PopX has
defined a powerful protection mode called site
protection mode.
-
PopX
detects and blocks soft pop-up now.
-
PopX
plays an animation whenever a pop-up is blocked.
-
PopX has a user friendly
reminder of current protect mode.
Install PopX
Download PopX.exe to your
hard disk and double click the file to run setup. After PopX is installed,
launch IE and you can see PopX toolbar sitting on the top of the IE window.
To enable PopX, click the View
menu, go to Toolbars and check PopX. You can also right click on an empty space
of the IE window and check PopX. When enabled, PopX toolbar is shown in the IE
window and it will be shown automatically in all subsequent IE windows until
you disable PopX.
To disable PopX, click the View
menu, go to Toolbars and
un-check PopX. You can right click on an empty space of the IE window and un-check PopX.
PopX toolbar disappears from current IE window and all the subsequent IE
windows.
To
un-install PopX, go to Control Panel and double click Add/Remove Programs. Select PopX and
click Remove.
Block Pop-ups
PopX automatically detects
and blocks pop-up windows when you surfing Internet. PopX distinguishes between
two types of pop-up:
-
Hard pop-ups: are those windows popping out
of IE window, and users can manually close them.
-
Soft
pop-ups: embed within a web page, and float around inside IE
window. Users can't do anything instead of staring at and bearing with them.
All other pop-up killers block only
hard pop-ups, while PopX is the only one in the market that detects and blocks
soft pop-ups. Whenever a pop-up is detected, PopX blocks it and gives users a
friendly reminder by putting an icon on the PopX toolbar. PopX uses icon for
hard pop-up, and
for soft pop-up. When mouse is hovering over hard pop-up icon, the icon tip
tells you the url of the blocked pop-up. If still skeptical, you can click on
the icon and the blocked pop-up will be restored. PopX treats soft pop-up icon
differently. First, no matter how many soft pop-ups have been blocked, there is
only one soft pop-up icon displayed on the toolbar. Second, toggling the soft
pop-up icon will disable PopX from blocking further coming soft pop-up for
current IE instance, however, PopX still shows the icon whenever a soft pop-up
is detected. Toggling back the soft pop-up icon will enable PopX to block soft
pop-up.
In addition, if you have selected
the logging pop-ups option in the preference page,
PopX will record the blocked pop-ups and you can check them in the
log page. To turn on or off blocking soft pop-up, or displaying pop-up
icons on toolbar, go to preference page and check on
or off these features.
Please note that PopX needs IE 5.5
or above to support detecting and blocking soft pop-ups.
Protection List
Sometimes you do want to see
all the information no matter they are from the main window or pop-up windows.
For example, when on-line banking or stock trading, you do not want missing
anything from the current web page(actually, PopX does not loss the
pop-ups but hides them from you in those pop-up icons). PopX provides
users with four different ways for protecting: page, site, local and Https
protection. If a
web
page is under one of the four protection modes, PopX lets the pop-ups pass by,
otherwise the pop-ups will be blocked.
-
Page Protection: the first button on
the toolbar is for setting this mode. If
button is unchecked, clicking on it puts current page under protection,
and any pop-ups from this page will not be blocked. PopX maintains a
non-blocking list, called protection list. Toggling button
adds the url of current page to protection list, The next time you navigate to
this page, PopX knows this page is protected by checking protection list.
Clicking on toggled button again turns off page protection
mode and remove the page from protection list. You can also
remove the page from protection list in the protection
list page.
-
Site Protection: the second button on
the toolbar is for setting this mode. If button
is unchecked, pressing on it puts the whole site on which the
current page locates under protection and adds current site to
protection list. Any further pop-ups from this site will not be
blocked. Clicking the toggled button turns off site protection mode and
remove current site from protection list. You can also remove the
site from protection list in the protection list
page .
-
Local Protection: Usually, local
site is trusted and no pop-ups from local network should be blocked. That is
why PopX set local protection on by default. When users are navigating a
local page, and local protection mode is enabled, PopX grays out and
disables the page and site protection buttons and puts a
prompt
at the right end of toolbar for reminding. Certainly, all local pop-ups
will not be blocked. Since this mode is rarely changed once is set, PopX does
not provide the
accessibility through toolbar for saving bar
space. However, users could easily turn it on or off in the
preference page.
-
Https
Protection: Https represents secure hypertext transfer protocol,
which is designed to transfer encrypted information between computers over the
World Wide Web. Most implementations of the HTTPS protocol involve online
purchasing or the exchange of private information. Accessing a secure server
often requires some sort of registration, login, or purchase. Usually you do
not want blocking anything from website using https protocol, that's why PopX
turns this feature on by default. Users still have the option to turn it off in
the preference page . When https
protection mode is turned on, PopX will gray out and
disable the page and site protection buttons and
show a prompt
at the right end of toolbar for all pages using https protocol. And all pop-ups
from https pages will pass through PopX.
Preference
Clicking
the preference icon
on PopX toolbar will launch the preference page. You
can turn on or off the following features in the setting page:
-
Start PopX automatically with IE: PopX will
be shown and enabled when IE is launched if this option is on.
-
Log blocked pop-ups: PopX will add the url
of the blocked pop-up to the log list for later
check up if this option is on.
-
Play a sound when a pop-up is detected: PopX
will display a sound for blocked pop-up if this option is on.
-
Allow pop-ups from local network: PopX
enables local
Protection mode and let pop-ups from local network pass by, if this option is on.
-
Allow pop-ups from SSL: PopX enables
https protection mode and let pop-ups from pages using HTTPS protocol
pass by, if this option is on.
-
Check
soft pop-ups: PopX will detect and block soft
pop-ups if this option is on. This feature needs IE 5.5 or above.
Or you can delete and add
entries, upgrade protection mode inside the protection
list page. You can view and delete the log of the pop-ups inside the
pop-ups log page.
